The development, evaluation, and implementation of multilevel interventions to improve the timeliness, equity, and quality of care delivery for patients with cancer along the care continuum
Research Interest
I am a fellowship-trained head and neck surgical oncologist, health services researcher, and Director of Survivorship and Cancer Outcomes Research (SCOR) at the NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center. In my clinical practice I routinely care for patients with cancer who struggle to navigate a complicated cancer care delivery system during treatment and then cope with devastating mental health outcomes in the survivorship period. In this clinical practice, I also care for a large population of racial and ethnic minorities, underinsured, rural, and other medically vulnerable patients with cancer and observe firsthand how differences in social determinants of health drive profound disparities in outcomes. My clinical practice informs and grounds my program of research, which leverages my scientific training in health behavior, health services research, and cancer disparities to understand and address issues related to cancer care delivery, health-related social risks, and mental health among patients with cancer along the treatment continuum.
