Optimizing equitable delivery of guideline concordant cancer care with an emphasis on postoperative venous thromboembolism prophylaxis
Research Interest
I am an academic colorectal surgeon and health services researcher with a research focus on optimizing guideline concordant cancer care to improve outcomes and mitigate health disparities. During my general surgery training, I pursued an NIH funded, two-year research fellowship in clinical outcomes research. During this time, I earned a Master of Public Health to develop the tangible skill set to conduct high quality research in this area. As highlighted below, I have used both large national data sets and institutional data to evaluate issues related to clinical effectiveness and disparities in colorectal surgery. Since joining the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2018, I have continued to conduct research aimed at mitigating disparities. Through my involvement with the Hollings Cancer Center Cancer Control Program, I have convened a highly experienced mentorship team, which has been instrumental in my current work aimed at improving guideline concordant utilization of extended venous thromboembolism prophylaxis after major cancer surgery.
