Research Interest

I am an oncologist specializing in genitourinary cancers at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) with a professor appointment. I am the Director of Precision Medicine and Blatt- Ness Distinguished Endowed Chair in Cancer Research at the Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC. My research focuses on the analysis of genome-wide chromatin modification maps of genotyped tumor tissue and integrating the analysis with other platforms, such as RNA sequencing, to enhance individualized medicine analyses. I am a co-investigator on the Mayo Clinic Genitourinary Biobank and participate in biospecimens submission for The Cancer Genome Atlas Project (TCGA) for papillary RCC, bladder, and prostate cancer. As a part of the TCGA efforts, I am involved with the RCC working group. I receive funding from the National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, and patient benefactors to study how chromatin-modifying enzyme mutations may alter histone modifications throughout the genome and impact treatment responses. Our synergistic team has expertise in genitourinary oncology, mouse xenografts/tumor biology, and biospecimens linked to treatment outcomes, to support the successful completion of the proposed aims.
