Research Interest

I am Professor of Biostatistics and Graduate Training Director for Biostatistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). I also hold a joint appointment at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and serve as a core member in the Biostatistics Shared Resource at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center (HCC). My current work focuses on Bayesian methods for longitudinal, spatial and functional data analysis. This research has resulted in methodological papers in leading statistics journals, such as Biometrics, Biostatistics, Statistics in Medicine, and Bayesian Analysis. I have applied these methods to a wide range of subject-matter areas, including cancer genomics, environmental heath, maternal and child health, chronic disease prevention, and health services utilization. At MUSC, I have continued my research in breast cancer, recently collaborating with investigators from Hollings Cancer Center on a study examining molecular differences in breast cancer patients. Using data from the Cancer Genome Atlas, we published a high-profile paper in Biometrics that proposed new statistical methods for modeling copy number variations among correlated cancer-relevant pathways (e.g., MAPK, Endocytosis and CCR Interaction).
