Signaling networks in the tumor microenvironment and how they impact tumor progression
Research Interest
I am the WH Folk Endowed Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the College of Medicine, and Senior Advisor to the Director for the NCI–designated Hollings Cancer Center, Medical University of South Carolina. Our research is focused on the tumor microenvironment, with a recent focus on the mechanisms of immune suppression in the tumor microenvironment in pancreatic cancer. We have expertise in both the generation and analysis of GEMMs and orthotopic models of pancreatic cancer, including characterizing immune populations by flow cytometry and multi-spectral imaging. Our lab has been continually funded by NIH since 1985. For ten years I was PI on an NCI P01 grant "Genetic Analysis of the Breast Tumor Microenvironment" and currently am a Project Leader on a new P01 focusing on the tumor macroenvironment in cancer progression and cancer cachexia.
